Restoring encrypted messages in chats

If after logging in you see that all your chats are encrypted, you need to apply your recovery key in the settings of the Verum Messenger app.

To do this, go to Settings → Recovery key → Restore chats. In the window that opens, you need to enter the recovery key you saved during registration and click the “Restore chats” button to decrypt all messages in chats.

💡

If you have not saved the recovery key before, then it will be impossible to restore chats!

If after entering the recovery key and clicking on the “Restore chats” button shows an error message, then you entered the wrong or old key. Each time you create a new key by tapping the “Get Key” button, the old key is automatically invalidated and no longer available (as well as messages that were encrypted with this key).

If all your chats are encrypted and you could not restore them using the recovery key, then you need to perform the following procedure to clear your account from old chats and messages:

⚠️

ATTENTION! Follow the steps below only if you have encrypted files and cannot recover them, or if you really want to clear all your chats and messages permanently.

Before starting to follow the instructions below, make sure that you remember your Verum ID and account password. If you do not remember your account password, you can recover it by linking your email.

Instructions for clearing all chats

  1. Go to Settings → Clear chats and calls and select "Clear all chats and calls".
  2. Sign out of your account via Settings → Your name → Sign out.
  3. After logging out of the account, you need to unload the application (by swiping up from the tray).
  4. Log in again to your account with your username and password.
